Poor Track, now fixed (mostly)

For years the 3km of track on Polish territory through the village of Porajów slowed down services at this border, but in the second half of 2025 the track was finally repaired. Operational speeds were increased from 40km/h to 100km/h. However the area is not without its problems still – cable thefts have led to reliability problems in 2026, and whether a station will be built at Porajów has still not been finally concluded.

European Commission Analysis

In 2018 the European Commission published its “Comprehensive analysis of the existing cross-border rail transport connections and missing links on the internal EU borders”. The main report (74 pages, PDF) summarises the issues, and Annex 3 of the report (384 pages, PDF) analysed every single border.

For the sake of simplicity, I have made a PDF just of the relevant pages of Annex 3 that cover Liberec-Porajów-Zittau – you can find that PDF here.
